How I Became A Fan of Bodyweight Exercises

Bodyweight Exercises and Weightless Fitness have proven to work great for me... an average 40 year old guy with a family, a time consuming non-fitness related vocation, and a very busy schedule.

How did I get started in this?

Let's go back in time about 30 years...

When I was twelve years old, I watched my brother die. It was a slow and agonizing process.

For several years his body withered away as he was ravaged by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

In a short time, he went from healthy and strong to being confined to a wheelchair at the age of 9.

His muscles deteriorated quickly and He died at the age of 17 from respiratory failure.

He simply did not have the strength to breathe.

Someday I hope to write a book about our time growing up and how his life and death radically affected me... mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It's going to be a book filled with stories that will make you laugh hysterically and chapters that will bring you to tears.

In a nutshell, by the time I was 5 years old I had become the body and he was the brains. Together we got into loads of mischief and enjoyed all sorts of amazing adventures on the family farm.

Because of his physical difficulties his heroes became the "strong guys" like Arnold Schwarzenegger. His admiration led me to admire the same people because I wanted to be like my big brother.

I began working out at a young age with my brother coaching me from his wheelchair.

The first time I lifted weights I was ten years old. My dad had built a weight bench for us from scrap metal and to me it was the greatest thing ever!

A couple years after my brother moved to heaven, I became a guitar player.

I practiced on average about 5 hours a day and began to play for money at 16.

Needless to say, fitness took a backseat. I still worked out a bit, but it was rare.

Fast Forward

Eventually I met a wonderful woman, got married, and started a family.

In my early 20's, my dad began to have very serious health problems which motivated me once again to start taking better care of myself physically.

Having a family and doing all the "stuff" that you have to do as a responsible adult led to life becoming more and more busy. As a result, I found it increasingly difficult to make it to the gym. Plus, the gym fees were really starting to add up.

On top of that, over time I began to be plagued with incredible shoulder pain (a common side effect of the bench press), major wrist problems (not good for my guitar playing), and overall stiffness in my body.

I knew there had to be a better way. Not only a better way to workout, but a better way to invest my money (Gym fees were costing me $600 per year).

Like most people I had been programmed to believe that I needed to go to the gym, that I had to lift a lot of weight, and that I couldn't get a decent workout any other way.

As a result, when my busy schedule kept me from the gym or when I was on the road, I simply didn't exercise. Sound familiar?

I needed to be re-educated. I needed a new way of thinking. I needed to find a way to get in great shape that didn't take a lot of time, that was very effective, and that I could do anywhere without having to have any equipment. Eventually I found it...in bodyweight exercises.

I Have A Great Job

I study somewhat difficult subjects (Theology) and then share what I've learned with large groups of people. It's my job to take complex issues and make them simple and easy to understand.

When it came time to find a super effective way to get in shape without trips to the gym and without lifting weights, I put my studying skills to the test, dug in and did some research.

I did a lot of reading... I watched a lot of videos... I spent a lot of money.

Eventually, my fitness quest took me back to the basics of bodyweight exercises.

After giving these "old school" exercises some "new school" tweaks, the results began to blow my mind. I would never see home fitness in the same way again.

But it didn't stop there...

I then began to focus on learning more about physics and leverage in an effort to increase the intensity of these time tested exercises.

Next came figuring out ways to adjust exercises to fit all fitness levels without buying any exercise equipment.

Very quickly, I began to develop a new fitness paradigm. I was seeing the world in a whole new light.

I was getting super effective home workouts... getting them done fast... and having a blast at the same time.

It Really Works

I knew my weightless workouts were having a great effect, when one morning I walked in the kitchen without a shirt on and my 15 year old daughter said:

"Dad you are getting ripped! Mom sure is a lucky wife!"

How may dads ever hear that from a teenager?

Her comment fired me up and inspired me to share Weightless Fitness with you! Bodyweight exercises open up the door for practically anyone to get in great shape even if they never have access to a gym.

My hope is that you will discover just how effective and FUN bodyweight exercises can truly be as I help you get in the best shape of your life.
